Absence of the suprarenal segment of the inferior vena cava with a coexisting absence of the right brachiocephalic vein in a 22-year-old Caucasian male with arterial hypertension.
Congenital anomalies of the inferior vena cava (IVC) are rarely observed malformations of the venous system, occurring in 0.3% of otherwise healthy individuals, and in 0.6% to 2% of patients with coexisting cardiovascular defects. They are usually asymptomatic and recognised incidentally during imaging, operations or dissection studies. In this paper we report an extremely rare case of a 22-yea...

INTRODUCTION Patent paraumbilical and abdominal subcutaneous veins are found frequently as collaterals in patients due to portal hypertension mainly in liver cirrhosis. CASE PRESENTATION For evaluation of portal hypertension in a 72-year-old Caucasian man without liver cirrhosis, magnetic resonance imaging with gadolinium contrast-enhancement was performed and demonstrated a missing inferior ...
متن کاملDysgenesis of the inferior vena cava associated with deep venous thrombosis and a partial Protein C deficiency.
Dysgenesis of the inferior vena cava is rare but it is being increasingly diagnosed by cross-sectional imaging techniques. Patients are usually asymptomatic with abnormalities detected incidentally. An 11 year old boy presented with a 10 day history of fever, vomiting and abdominal pain, which progressed to his back and lower limbs. Magnetic resonance imaging, computerised tomography and Dopple...
متن کاملAdrenal venous sampling in a patient with left inferior vena cava
Adrenal venous sampling (AVS), although difficult, is recommended for patients with primary aldosteronism (PA) to diagnose the subtype. Recognizing anatomical variation is key to a successful AVS. We report on a patient with PA and left inferior vena cava (IVC) whose left adrenal vein drained directly into the IVC.
متن کاملRare congenital anomaly of the inferior vena cava
Congenital anomaly of the inferior vena cava (IVC) is a well described phenomenon [1,2]. These anomalies include complete absence, partial absence or duplication of the IVC [3]. Such anomalies of the IVC are seen more frequently in those with other congenital cardiac anomalies (0.6%–2%) [4]. This congenital condition can be discovered incidentally, or due to symptoms of associated congenital he...
